Earlier this year I received an invitation to contribute to an art project called Kaamoskalenteri, which is kind of like an advent calendar but for passing the darkest months of the year. There are over 100 artists involved from November 1st to February 9th and they’re free to create whatever they want for the calendar. I made an artists’ book called their heart a glacier.
I often use see-through elements in my artists’ books - here it’s not just glass but also plastic layered between sheets of thin glass. Glass alone was too clear but this plastic adds a slight foggy feel to it. Details matter.

glass, plastic film, paper, board, silk ribbon
I have a fondness for things barely visible. Black on black typewriting on the case with my name + 2019.
I made a small video of the artists’ book in action as I love to see how objects actually function instead of figuring it out from pictures. I plan to add more of my artists’ book videos to my YouTube channel, but I have no idea when I have the time and energy to make it happen. But, you know, they’re coming.
The Suutelen sinua / I kiss you artists’ book has had an amazing reception. I’m so, so honored and happy. It’s a deeply personal project that was in the works for over two years and to have it be ready AND loved means so much to me. Out of the limited edition of 100+20, 66+9 are sold in just eight days. This of course means you still have a chance to get yours! Visit www.suutelensinua.com - if not to read more or to order, then to listen the beautiful sound poem my friend Lauri Wuolio made with my voice and words.
