My very quiet friends

It took even longer than I expected. After some serious technical problems with the hanging I settled for this higgledy-piggledy mess. Nothing hangs straight nor stays in place, but maybe I can just consider this wall as a living organism, my allergen-free pet that needs some taking care of. As you can imagine, taking photos of a narrow hallway wasn't exactly easy either.

The Time Wasting Experiments by Alyson Provax are accompanied by old cabinet photos, most of which are of complete strangers, some long gone relatives from my father's side and their friends. So I guess all the peeps in the cabinet photos are complete strangers now that I really think of it. There are also old postcards on the wall there and bits of random ephemera. The poem written in German as well as the tiny cut out lady in the same frame were tucked in between my great grandaunt Saima's postcards. The invisible eyes and hooks come from my paternal grandmothers button tin.

The last photo is of a glass negative of my grandmother with her parents. My mother said the dress my grandmother is wearing in this photo was sky blue and it had a white fur collar. I really love this photo I took. The ones closest to my grandmother called her Kaija, so for some of my cousins and aunts and uncles I've always been pikku-Kaija (little-Kaija), but in this photo I get to be the bigger one.
